Our Net Zero Commitment

Hensall is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050

As a Mechanical and Electrical engineering group delivering decarbonisation projects across the UK, we recognise that credibility starts with our own operations. Our approach is structured, data driven and independently supported to ensure transparency and accountability.

Our Carbon Reduction Plan has been prepared in accordance with PPN 06/21 and the GHG Protocol corporate standard

Our Baseline

Our baseline year for carbon reporting is January to December 2024

Total market based emissions for 2024 were 8,890.9 tCO2e
Hensall – Carbon Reduction Plan, comprising:

  • Scope 1 emissions from fleet and mobile combustion
  • Scope 2 emissions from purchased electricity and gas
  • Scope 3 emissions including procurement, transportation, commuting, waste and other value chain activities

Our emissions equate to a carbon intensity metric of 101.1 tCO2e per full time employee equivalent, based on 88 FTEs during the baseline period
Hensall – Carbon Reduction Plan.

This is the first period in which Hensall Group has formally reported emissions and it will serve as the reference point for future reduction.

Our Reduction Targets

To achieve Net Zero by 2050, we must reduce absolute emissions by at least 90 percent from our 2024 baseline and neutralise any residual emissions through verified carbon offsets

We have also set near term targets to 2030:

  • Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by at least 42 percent
  • Procure 100 percent renewable electricity by 2027
  • Measure all Scope 3 categories by 2027
  • Reduce absolute Scope 3 emissions by at least 42 percent by 2030

These targets are supported by structured transition planning across fleet, procurement, utilities and supply chain engagement.

Action in Progress

We have already implemented several initiatives to support reduction:

  • Appointment of Positive Planet to establish baseline carbon measurement
  • Creation of a cross departmental Green Team and CSR Committee
  • LED lighting upgrades across occupied sites
  • Transition toward battery electric and plug in hybrid fleet vehicles
  • Carbon Literacy training across leadership and team members
  • Structured sustainability engagement with key suppliers

Future initiatives include fleet electrification planning, renewable energy procurement, gas consumption efficiency reviews, sustainable travel policies and deeper supply chain integration.

Engineering and Accountability

Decarbonisation is not theoretical for us. It is central to the work we deliver for clients across custodial, leisure, education and commercial estates.

Our Net Zero strategy aligns with our operational expertise in heat pump integration, solar PV, energy efficiency upgrades and infrastructure modernisation. We believe meaningful progress requires leadership ownership, measurable targets and annual reporting transparency.

Progress will be published annually as part of our Carbon Reduction Plan reporting cycle.
