The Challenge

Hensall delivered a fully coordinated mechanical and electrical solution for the Primark Chester store, providing end-to-end involvement from design development through to final commissioning and handover.

Acting as mechanical project managers, Hensall produced detailed designs and working drawings, ensuring all systems were fully coordinated prior to installation. Site setup and ongoing liaison were managed closely to support a smooth delivery programme within a busy retail environment.

The mechanical installation included comfort heating and cooling systems designed to maintain a consistent internal environment across the store. General ventilation systems were installed throughout, supported by dedicated toilet extract systems to ensure effective air quality control. Domestic water services were fully integrated, alongside above-ground drainage and condensate systems to support all welfare and back-of-house areas.

Gas distribution systems were also installed to service relevant plant and equipment, with all services carefully coordinated to align with the overall building infrastructure. An integrated automatic controls system was implemented, linking all mechanical services to enable efficient and centralised operation.

External plant was installed to support the building’s overall mechanical performance, with careful consideration given to space constraints and service routing.

All systems were fully tested, commissioned, and documented to ensure compliance, reliability, and ease of ongoing operation, delivering a robust and efficient mechanical installation suitable for a high-traffic retail environment.

Our Solution

Hensall were appointed as mechanical project managers for the Primark Chester fit-out, taking responsibility for the coordination and delivery of all mechanical services from design stage through to completion.

The scope included the installation of comfort heating and cooling systems, general ventilation, and dedicated extract systems to serve welfare areas. Domestic water services and above-ground drainage systems were also installed, ensuring full coverage of all retail and back-of-house requirements.

Throughout the project, Hensall produced detailed designs and working drawings which provided a clear and structured roadmap for installation. This thorough pre-planning allowed for efficient coordination on site and ensured all systems were delivered in line with programme requirements.

All mechanical services were fully tested and commissioned prior to handover, ensuring reliable performance and compliance across the entire installation.

As a result of the detailed design process and careful project management, the fit-out progressed smoothly with minimal disruption. The project was delivered efficiently, with few challenges encountered on site, and was successfully completed to programme and specification.
