ISHHO Leeds
The Challenge
Our Solution
Hensall delivered a fully coordinated mechanical and electrical solution for Issho, successfully meeting the demands of a high-end hospitality environment within a constrained programme.
Entrusted with full project management of the electrical fit-out, Hensall undertook detailed planning and the production of comprehensive working drawings to ensure accuracy and efficiency on site. A key priority was delivering a sophisticated lighting scheme that aligned with the venue’s premium aesthetic. Working closely with the lighting designer, Hensall implemented a combination of LED, halogen, and bespoke luminaires to achieve the desired ambience in the most energy-efficient way possible. This was complemented by the installation of advanced safety and security systems, including fire alarms, CCTV, and access control.
A strict programme requirement added further pressure, with the facility needing to be fully operational four weeks prior to opening to allow for staff training. Despite this, Hensall maintained programme integrity and delivered all systems on time and to a high standard.
From a mechanical perspective, Hensall installed comprehensive ventilation and air conditioning systems throughout the restaurant, including a high-performance kitchen extract system. Public health systems were installed across all sanitary areas in line with the architect’s specifications, adhering to BREEAM principles despite the project not formally requiring certification. A dedicated refrigeration system was also installed to support the drinks storage areas.
To optimise performance and user control, Hensall implemented a Building Management System (BMS), providing intelligent control over ventilation, heating, cooling, and domestic services. The system was designed for ease of use, with a 10-inch touchscreen interface mounted directly onto the BMS panel, enabling efficient day-to-day operation.
The project’s location on the fourth floor of Victoria Gate Shopping Centre introduced logistical challenges, particularly around access for large equipment. To overcome this, Hensall adopted a strategy of assembling key elements on site, ensuring installation could proceed without delays.
Further complexity arose from the need to link services between multiple floors, as management offices were located on the first floor. This required intricate routing of communication, data, and EPOS systems throughout the building. Through careful planning and a clear execution strategy, Hensall successfully delivered these connections without disruption.
Despite the technical and logistical challenges, the project was completed to an exceptional standard, resulting in a high-performing, visually striking venue ready to welcome guests.
